Book Review: Surprise Me by Sophie Kinsella
Surprise Me by Sophie Kinsella
4/5
I went into this book already loving the author. Her book Can You Keep a Secret? Is one of my favorites and I’m quick to recommend it to any and everyone! Her books are well written and witty without being shallow and this one is no different.
However, the main character, Sylvie is different than her other characters – she’s married, with twins and madly in love with her husband (as opposed to the single gal with her life falling apart). She and her husband Dan find out they’re extremely compatible. So compatible they will be together forever, which becomes an encouraging yet very daunting fact. How will we get along for that long? We already know each other too well!
So, they decide to start surprising each other in accidentally hilarious ways, I can’t tell you more without ruining the surprise. When Sylvie discovers more surprises than she bargains for, her marriage faces some unexpected tests.
Kinsella does such a fantastic job putting the reader in Sylvie’s head, so much so that I genuinely didn’t see some of the surprises coming! It’s a great, quick read. It seemed long but I finished it in a day and a half! It ends on a more serious note but very pleasantly and hopeful.
This book is a great, quick read. Lighthearted without being shallow or cheesy.
